Wallmart, Eirene Systems keen to invest in Himachal

US-based retail giant Walmart, defence equipment major Eirene Systems and solar power company Surya Ushma on Monday showed interest to invest in Himachal Pradesh, an official statement said.

Wallmart India CEO Krish Iyer met Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh here and extended a proposal to open five retail stores with an investment of $10 million, a statement by the state government said.

It said the retail outlet also expressed interest to invest in schemes for women empowerment, training and education.

Likewise, defence equipment major Eirene Systems submitted a proposal to set up manufacturing unit with an investment of around $1.5 billion.

The investors' meet here was organised by the state in association with the Confederation of India Industries.

Virbhadra Singh and Industries Minister Mukesh Agnihotri was present at the meeting.

Surya Ushma Private Ltd proposed to invest in solar energy of around 100 MW initially in the Spiti Valley and expressed interest in manufacturing solar panels.

A proposal to invest approximately Rs.1,000 crore for setting up portable self-service fuel filling stations, a new worldwide patented technology by Alinz (India), in collaboration with the Czech Republic, was also discussed, it said.

After constructing a plush residential project in the picturesque Kasauli hills, Tata expressed interest in expansion of the existing residential housing project. It also wanted to set up a mineral water bottling plant.

Microtek International proposed to invest Rs.400 crore to expand existing units and to add new plants to manufacture solar equipments and Syska LED Lights Private Ltd wanted to invest Rs.500 crore.

Proposals for expansion of yarn manufacturer Indorama with additional investment of Rs.300 crore in its existing unit and Rs.450 crore by Sara Textiles Ltd also received at the meet.

Earlier, the investors' meet was held in Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Bengaluru.
