Global software major Wipro on Monday announced winning a multi-year contract to develop a new IT platform for Danish energy firm NRGi's operations.

The Northern European state is opening up its energy sector and tweaking its regulatory policy to ensure transparency for consumers, energy suppliers and utility firms in a competitive market.

"Our platform will help NRGi comply with the new model in the Danish energy market, facilitate digital initiatives and enhance user experience of end-customers," Wipro head for Nordic region Carl-Henrik Hallstrom said on the occasion.

As a strategic IT partner, the outsourcing major will design, build, host and deploy a customer information system (CIS) for the utility provider in a platform as a service (PaaS) model.

"The platform will usher in digital transformation and enable us to become more customer-centric and get more new customer," NRGi Infrastructure AS chief executive Gert Rieder said in the statement.
