Former Chief Engineer of Noida, Yadav Singh was assaulted by lawyers in the Lucknow district court on Monday when he was produced by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case.
Police said when he was leaving the court premises in a wheel chair after being produced before the court, which sent him to 14 days judicial custody, waiting media persons tried to click some pictures. This incensed his supporters, who scuffled with the lensmen and triggered a free for all in which a group of lawyers joined in and rained blows on him.
The unsuspecting ED officials were also hit in the melee that followed.
Police and ED officials had a tough time taking Yadav Singh out from the crowd's clutches and after a lot of effort, he was eventually whisked away in an ambulance and sent to the Lucknow jail.
Yadav Singh is prime accused in a Rs 900-crore scam in the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority (Noida) and the ED filed a money laundering case against him on October 8, 2015.
