Asserting that the BJP had no right to attack Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, angry Youth Congress workers Wednesday protested outside the opposition party's headquarters. They broke barricades and tried to enter but police used water cannons to restrain them.

Holding posters and banners mocking the Bharatiya Janata Party, Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress (DPYC) protesters gathered outside the BJP's 11, Ashoka Road office in central Delhi and said the BJP itself was corrupt.

"The BJP is a total corrupt party and they have no right to attack our PM who has such a clean image," Amit Malik, president of DPYC, told IANS.

Police said the entire New Delhi area was barricaded and no one was detained.

Three days ago, on May 12, activists of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of the BJP, had gathered near the 7 Race Course Road residence of the prime minister and burnt his effigy. Police lobbed teargas shells and used water cannons to beat them back.

The BJP has been demanding Manmohan Singh's resignation over allegations of irregularities in coal allotment.
