A goat arrested on Monday in Chhattisgarh for "raiding" a senior bureaucrat's garden has been granted bail. The goat, whose name is not known, and its owner, Abdul Hassan, were booked under charges - including criminal trespass and mischief with the intent of causing damage - that carry a two- to seven-year prison term and a fine. The police in Korea district, about 350 km from state capital Raipur, claimed the goat was a "repeat offender". The bungalow of district magistrate Hemant Ratre has an iron gate and the goat used to jump over it and enter, said an assistant sub-inspector. The police listed grazing in the garden and eating plants and vegetables among the goat's criminal activities. It is not known whether the goat has "bleated" guilty or innocent.
