This refers to the editorial "Think long term" (June 19). Inflation is a topic that should not be tackled with political motives. It happens often in India that due to the lack of proper storage facilities, food grains are allowed to rot. Hence, one of the main duties of the new government is to build modern storage facilities to store excess food grains that can be systematically sold during shortage. New techniques should be encouraged to store our buffer stocks. The smooth transport of food grains from one state to another and removing bottlenecks or middlemen from interfering in the flow of food items will also go a long way in curtailing food inflation. Our political leaders should rise above petty politics while dealing with food inflation since they cannot play politics when millions of Indians are suffering. More importantly, people should be made aware about the wastage of food. Also, farmers should be educated on modern ways of farming to increase yield.
