Quite apart from his view that the budget for the Commonwealth Games was best spent elsewhere, one of the reasons for Mani Shankar Aiyar’s ire could be the insensitivity of the Suresh Kalmadi-led Commonwealth Games Organising Committee. The new signage used by the Games’ organisers refers to Connaught Place by its original name and not, as Aiyar would have liked, as Rajiv Chowk, a name that he had, in fact, suggested.
