Congress leaders, irrespective of their stature, bend over backwards when it comes to eulogising the Gandhis. However, Coal Minister and senior Congress leader from Uttar Pradesh Sriprakash Jaiswal’s attempt at eulogising ‘Rahul ji’ seems to have badly backfired. When asked why Rahul Gandhi was not being projected as a chief ministerial candidate in Uttar Pradesh, Jaiswal replied, “He is the person who has not even accepted the Prime Minister’s post. But, rest assured, whoever (from the Congress ) is the chief minister, Gandhi will remote control the government in Uttar Pradesh.” The comment gave the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) perfect ammunition to attack the Congress. “Till now, this was the trend at the Centre — the Manmohan Singh government is remote-controlled by the Gandhis. Now, it’s going to be replicated in Uttar Pradesh, as well,” said a senior BJP leader.
