Calling Kejriwal's refusal to furnish a bail bond to avoid arrest as a "pure drama", DPCC Chief spokesperson Mukesh Sharma said the AAP leader was trying to get people's sympathy by preferring to go to jail but it did not work.
"If Kejriwal refused to furnish bail bond, then why another AAP leader Yogendra Yadav did not hesitate to produce personal bond of Rs 5,000 to get bail? AAP is resorting to theatrics to mislead people," Sharma said.
Kejriwal was sent to Tihar Jail till May 23 by a Delhi court yesterday after he refused to furnish bail bond in a criminal defamation complaint filed against him by BJP leader Nitin Gadkari.
AAP had said Kejriwal did not furnish the personal bond of Rs 10,000 taking a principled stand on the issue as he was not guilty in the case.
59 protesters, including senior leaders Yogendra Yadav, Manish Sisodia and Rakhi Birla, were arrested for staging a protest outside the Tihar jail violating prohibitory orders. Kejriwal has been lodged in the jail.
Yadav was today granted bail by a Delhi court after he furnished a personal bond of Rs 5,000.
Yadav was produced before the court which rejected the plea to release him on an undertaking that he will appear before it whenever required. Sisodia was also released on furnishing the bail bond.
