Modi to visit France, Germany, Canada from April 9-16

An advance team from the MEA is presently visiting these countries to firm up the PM's agenda

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be embarking on an official trip to France, Germany and Canada from April 9-16. This will be his first visit to these countries since taking over office in May last year.

The Prime Minister's first destination will be France where he will be reaching on April 9 till April 12. During his stay there, he will be meeting French President Francois Hollande and other senior officials. In France, he is also expected to address the large Indian community resident there.

PM Modi will then head towards Germany to inaugurate the Hannover Messe, which is regarded as the world's largest industrial fair, jointly with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on April 12.

This year India is the partner country showcasing the 'Make in India' campaign and the country's manufacturing prowess. Modi will also have extensive bilateral talks with Merkel while in Germany where he is expected to stay till April 14 before moving on to Canada.

He will be in Canada from April 14-16. There he will be meeting his Canadian counterpart there Stephen Harper and will be interacting with the business community there.

It is also expected that while in Canada, Modi will also be addressing the huge Indian diaspora there similar to what was witnessed at the US' Madison Square event.

In each of these three countries Modi is also expected to visit one more city apart from their respective capitals.

"Prime Minsiter's visits to France, Germany and Canada reflect the 'Link West' aspect of India's foreign policy. We see this as an opportunity to reinforce our strong links in each of these countries with a focus on investment and technological ties-ups," Syed Akbaruddin, spokesperson, ministry of external affairs (MEA) said here today.
