Polling begins in Chhattisgarh; cop injured in bomb blast

Polling began Monday in 18 constituencies of Chhattisgarh that are going to the polls in the first phase of assembly elections.
 
Voting started at 7 AM in 12 seats of the Maoist bastion of Bastar region and some booths in Rajnandgaon district, an official said. Voting will continue in these areas till 3 PM
 
The official said polling began at 8 AM. in the remaining booths of the six seats in Rajnandgaon district. Voters in these areas can exercise their franchise till 5 PM

Amidst polls, a police personnel was injured when a pressure bomb laid by naxals exploded in Kanker district of north Bastar.
 
The incident took place when the jawan was removing the bomb, placed beneath the earth, for defusing near Parlakot village (PV 97) under Bande police station limits this morning, Kanker Additional Superintendent of Police CD Tandon told PTI.
 
After administering first aid to the injured security personnel at a local health centre, he was brought to district headquarter, he said.
 
Further details are awaited, he said.
