Democracy watchdog Association for Democratic Reform has, on the basis of affidavits of ministers which they had filed during their nomination, compiled details of wealth, criminal cases against them and other information.

What are serious criminal cases

Here is a checklist of comparisons between the Union council of ministers of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) governments in 2014 and 2019: How it fares on criminal cases against members, their wealth and gender representation

  • Offence for which maximum punishment is of 5 years or more 
  • If an offence is non-bailable 
  • If it is an electoral offence (those under IPC 171E or bribery) 
  • Offence related to loss to exchequer 
  • Offences that are related to assault, murder, kidnapping and rape 
  • Offences that are mentioned in the Representation of the People Act (Section 8) 
  • Offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act 
  • Crimes against women
