BNP Paribas has announced the key appointment of Ganeshan Murugaiyan as Head of Investment Banking and Global Strategic Coverage for India. Based out of Mumbai, Murugaiyan will report jointly to Jacques Michel, CEO and Country Head, BNP Paribas India, and Christian de Charnace, Head of Corporate Finance for BNP Paribas Asia-Pacific.

Murugaiyan has over fifteen years of experience in investment banking. Prior to this appointment, he was head of Investment Banking at UBS Securities India where his key responsibilities included M&A and capital markets. He began his career at Merrill Lynch where he worked until 2006. He holds a post-graduate diploma in management from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) at Kolkata.

Christian de Charnace, Head of Corporate Finance for BNP Paribas Asia-Pacific, said, “We are delighted to have someone of Ganeshan’s calibre and rich experience to lead our Investment Banking franchise in India. India is an exciting market with strong cross border potential and this appointment highlights our commitment to growing our investment banking presence here while leveraging on our global reach."

Jacques Michel, Chief Executive and Country Head, BNP Paribas India, added, “We find that for Investment Banking activities, Indian corporate houses and companies prefer to work with their core financing bankers. In India, BNP Paribas has deep-rooted relationships with large corporates and this together with our recognised balance sheet capabilities positions us as a core bank with these corporate houses. Combining this advantage with a robust Investment Banking product offering, will enable us to provide significant value to our clients as they look to acquire assets and raise growth capital in the global markets. By bringing investment banking and global strategic coverage under Ganeshan’s leadership, we will be leveraging this potential.”
