Shri B. C. Tripathi takes over as GAIL CMD

Shri B. C. Tripathi has taken over as Chairman and Managing Director of GAIL (India) Limited today. Shri Tripathi was till now Director (Marketing) of the Company.

Shri Tripathi is a Mechanical Engineer. He joined GAIL during its inception in 1984 from ONGC where he was part of the first team set up as GAIL Cell in 1983. Shri Tripathi was one of the initial team members involved in the construction and commissioning of the HVJ pipeline system. He has over 27 years experience in Gas Sector.

Shri Tripathi has rich experience in all the major operational and core areas of GAIL, namely, project management, pipeline construction, gas transmission, operations and maintenance and marketing.

Shri Tripathi was very closely associated with the HVJ pipeline project. Subsequently, he looked after the Operations & Maintenance of the pipeline network in various capacities. During his tenure as OIC of the pipeline network in UP Region, his major responsibilities included operations & maintenance of pipeline network, Customer Relationship Management etc.

He subsequently assumed charge as General Manager (Projects) and later as Executive Director (Projects) wherein he successfully executed over 3800 km. pipeline projects costing over Rs. 8640 crores.  Some of these projects included the Dahej-Vijaipur Pipeline, Dahej-Uran Dabhol Pipeline, and Vishakhapatnam – Secunderabad LPG Pipeline (VSPL).

Shri Tripathi took over as Director (Marketing) in July 2007. As Director (Marketing), Shri Tripathi was responsible for marketing GAIL’s complete range of products and services in the field of natural gas, including R-LNG, LPG, Propane and other liquid hydrocarbons, Petrochemicals (HDPE and LLDPE) and Bandwidth Leasing in Telecom sector.

Shri Tripathi has a keen interest in CSR, sports and culture.

Shri Tripathi has taken over the charge of CMD, GAIL from Dr. U D Choubey who superannuated from services of GAIL on July 31, 2009.
