In a bid to improve sanitation in rural areas by 2019, Haryana government today said it has approved as many as 1,302 solid and liquid waste management projects across the state.
During the first meeting of Haryana State Swachh Bharat Mission Society's executive committee here, headed by Chief Secretary D S Dhesi, it was informed that of the total number of projects, 259 have already been completed and work on 410 projects is in progress.
Also 90 liquid waste management projects have been completed, an official spokesperson said.
Rs 341.65 crore has been approved for these projects, of which Rs 295.14 crore has been allotted for liquid waste management and Rs 46.51 crore for solid waste management, he said.
In the meeting, it was also informed that the state will become open defecation free (ODF) by July next year.
"Till now, 3,789 out of the total 6,204 panchayats have been declared ODF," the spokesperson said, adding senior district officials have been entrusted with the task of making aware the people about open defecation.
Apart from this, people are also being encouraged to construct toilets. Similarly, construction of community toilets are also being taken up in slums, he said.
The state government has started Swarna Jayanti Puraskar under Swachh Yojana for the year 2016-17 to inspire panchayats and develop a sense of competition among them to check open defecation.
Under this, an award of Rs 1 lakh will be given on the selection of Swachh and Harit gram panchayat at block level. Besides another one lakh will be given on the selection as best gram panchayat at the district level every month.
