"An SIT was formed to probe the cases. During the process of investigation of cases against Nayeem gang, the SIT officers arrested 10 accused persons from Karimnagar and Nalgonda districts," stated a release from the DGP office.
With the fresh arrests, the number of people in police custody has reached 77.
Among the 10 arrested accused, nine are associates of Nayeem, while one, Mohd Ashraf, is his brother-in-law, the statement said.
As many as 72 cases were registered against Nayeem in various police stations in Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar, Khammam, Karimnagar and Ranga Reddy districts.
According to police, the arrested accused were involved in seven cases of kidnap and armed extortions, forcible registration of land and plots in Bhongir town of Nalgonda.
"Efforts are being continued to arrest remaining gang members of Nayeem," police said.
Nayeem, the Maoist-turned-gangster, had formed a criminal gang and was allegedly indulged in land grabbings, extortions, kidnappings etc., many of which were not reported to police due to fear of reprisal.
