Titled '10 Things I Hate About Life', the film will be written and directed by original movie's director Gil Junger.
It stars Evan Rachel Wood and Thomas McDonell as two people who are about to commit suicide before they meet and fall in love with each other, reported Vulture.
Wood and McDonell are not playing Julia Stiles and Ledger's characters from the original. It would be more of a thematic sequel.
The 1999 film, a modernised version of Shakespeare's 'The Taming of the Shrew', was a breakout success for late Ledger and Stiles.
