City-based Kovai Medical Center and Hospital today opened an 100-bedded multi-speciality hospital, specialising in trauma and emergency care, at Sulur on the outskirts.
The hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment with four operation theatres and 10-bedded intensive care unit, hospital chairman Dr Nalla G Palaniswami said at the inaugural function.
"The main aim of the hospital, set up with an outlay of Rs.20 crore, is to reach more people, specially the rural population who are in need of medical and health care services," he said.
The hospital laid its focus on trauma and emergency care because of the steep rise in the road traffic accidents on the highway, as the rural roads have turned out to be one of the biggest killers with 285 people succumbing to road accidents in 2015, Palaniswami said.
Yesteryear Tamil matinee idol, Shivakumar inaugurated the hospital.
Air Commodore and Air officer Commanding, Indian Air Force, Sulur, Sunil Kumar said the hospital would be a boon to retired defence people, who have to go to the city for quality treatment.
