105 students fell ill after taking deworming drugs

A total of 105 primary school students today fell ill in two districts of Tripura after taking deworming drugs supplied by the government on the National Deworming Day yesterday, officials said.
While 67 students of several schools in North Tripura district were affected, 48 children of another school fell ill in Unakoti district after consuming 'albendasol' doses yesterday.
North Tripura district magistrate Dr S R Rathor said 67 students of Chandrapur class twelve school and few other schools fell sick in the school and were admitted to Dharmanagar Subdivisional Hospital.
Condition of two of them were stated to be serious.

Chief Medical Officer of the district, Shankar Das, said an investigation was ordered and the samples of the drugs, water and food distributed in mid-day meal programme are being examined.
In Unakoti district, 48 students of Sidang Banapalli S B School fell ill and were admitted to Kumarghat Subdivisional Hospital, School Inspector Gyanprabin Chakma said.
They are stated to be out of danger.
On National Deworming Day yeterday, children aged between 1-19 years were administered drugs through government schools and Anganwadi centres of 11 states -- Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and Tripura.
