1099 ambulance service in MP soon

With an aim to provide quick assistance to the mishap victims, an Accident Response System will soon be implemented in Madhya Pradesh.

Under the system, the trial run of which began today, the mishap victims can dial '1099' from their mobile or a landline phone and soon an ambulance would reach the spot to help people in distress, an official release said.

The system is based on modern technology to provide quick relief and also for restoration of road traffic. Toll plazas situated on major roads will be associated with the emergency service to provide assistance to the people.

A centralised control room will be set up at Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation's (MPRDC) Arera Hills headquarters for the purpose.

The scheme will be implemented in three phases on all national and state roads coming under MPRDC. The total length of these roads is 20,000 km, the release said.

MPRDC will set up the Accident Response System and Traffic Management System initially for five years under which ambulances equipped with GPS would reach the accident site with the help of input from call centre, it added.
