Twelve 'ashtadhatu' (mixed metal) statues of Hindu gods and goddesses - stolen from different temples here - were recovered today from a scrap market in the district, police said.
Acting on a tip-off, police raided different areas and arrested six persons, Superintendent of Police Babu Ram said.
On the basis of information provided by them, 12 stolen 'ashtadhatu' statues of Lord Krishna, Rama, Shankar, Radha and Kali were recovered from shops in a scrap market near Station Road, the SP said.
These statues were stolen from different temples in the district, he said, adding that the Archaeological Survey of India would examine the statues to ascertain their financial worth and historical importance.
