13 killed in college shooting in US, Obama urges gun control

At least 13 people were killed and 20 injured when a 20-year-old man went on a shooting rampage at a community college in the US state of Oregon.
The gunman died in an exchange of gunfire with police, officials said. It is not yet clear whether the number of those killed included the gunman.
The incident took place yesterday on the campus of the Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, which is about 180 miles south of Portland - the Capital of Oregon. It has some 3,000 students.
Local authorities, who were investigating the case, offered no immediate word on the gunman's motive.

President Barack Obama, who has advocated stricter gun control laws after a half-dozen previous shootings incidents, expressed grief saying "thoughts and prayers are not enough".
"Our thoughts and prayers are not enough. It's not enough. It does not capture the heartache and anger we should feel... it does not prevent this carnage in some other place in America," he said.

"We can actually do something about it, but we're going to have to change our laws...It cannot be this easy for somebody who wants to inflict harm on other people to get his or her hands on a gun," Obama said.

Reflecting on the incident, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton called for "sensible" gun law reform.
"Another devastating shooting. We need sensible gun control measures to save lives, and I will do everything I can to achieve that," she said.
