Seven persons were killed and six others injured when the tempo they were travelling in collided with a stationery truck parked on the road side in Muzaffarnagar, they said.
The ill-fated vehicle was on its way from Hathras to Haridwar when the mishap took place.
Those killed have been identified as Sandeep Kumar (35), Darshan Lal (50), Gayatri (52), Rajendra Prasad Tiwari (57), Veerbala Sharma (50), Shahi Gupta (55) and Shashi Bala (40), police said.
Those killed included Indradev Triapthi (55) his wife Malti (52), Reema (31), Shikha (18) and jeep driver Mangru Yadav (35).
In another incident in Ballia, a 12-year-old boy was killed and 13 others injured when a tempo overturned in Haldia village in Reoti area, they said.
The deceased has been identified as Aakash, police said, adding that the injured have been rushed to the hospital.
