14 shops gutted in Barpeta fire

A devastating fire gutted 14 shops and two residential houses at Kahibari Bazar area near Barpeta town in the wee hours today, police said.
The fire broke out at about one in the morning completely engulfing two pharmacies, a computer shop, a mobile phone shop, one grocery and a garment's shop besides, two bicycle shops, they said.
Though no one was injured in the mishap, an estimated Rs 60 lakh worth goods were destroyed, they said, adding, two fire tenders from Barpeta town were pressed into service to douse the fire.
