150 candidates left in fray for LS polls in Delhi

A total of 150 candidates are in the fray for the Lok Sabha polls for seven parliamentary constituencies in Delhi after the withdrawal of nominations by six candidates today.
"Six candidates pull out from the poll fray today which was the last date of withdrawing nominations. Nomination papers of 156 candidates were accepted after scrutiny on March 24," said an election official.
Out of six candidates, five are independents while the remaining one is from Jammu and Kashmir National Panther's Party.
Prominent leaders Kapil Sibal (Cong), Harsh Vardhan (BJP), Rajmohan Gandhi (AAP), Ajay Maken (Cong), Meenakshi Lekhi (BJP) and Sandeep Dikshit (Cong) among others are in the fray for the seven constituencies here.
Bhojpuri actor-singer Manoj Tiwari and actor Biswajit Chatterjee are also contesting elections on BJP and TMC tickets respectively.
While Tiwari is contesting from North East constituency, Chatterjee has been fielded from New Delhi.
According to EC officials, after withdrawal of names a maximum number of 29 candidates are contesting from New Delhi constituency, while a minimum of 14 are from North West Delhi.
Congress, which had won all the seven seats in 2009 Lok Sabha elections, has re-nominated all the sitting MPs.
In 2009 Lok Sabha polls, 221 candidates had filed nominations while 160 had contested the election.
Out of seven constituencies in Delhi, six are general seats and one is reserved for Scheduled Caste.
The constituencies are Chandni Chowk, North East Delhi, East Delhi, New Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi, and North West Delhi (reserved).
The election in Delhi is scheduled for April 10.
