At least 17 people were confirmed killed in a landslide that hit a village in eastern China's Zhejiang Province when Typhoon Megi wrecked havoc forcing relocation of over 3.15 lakh people, local officials said.
Rain brought by the typhoon caused about 400,000 cubic meters of debris to slide down mountains in Sucun Village, Suichang County, last Wednesday, burying 20 houses.
Twenty-seven people were reported missing after the accident. The 17 found by rescuers were pronounced dead at the scene. Rescuers are also closely monitoring a barrier lake.
By Thursday afternoon, the water level had dropped by 10 meters from its highest point, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
