Jyoti, who secured first class in the Intermediate examination in science stream from Prem Devi Girls Inter College here, under UP state board, set herself on fire on Monday night, police said.
Though the fire was brought under control by family members, she succumbed to burn injuries on way to hospital.
"Since I am poor vegetable seller, I was not in a position to afford the fee for a regular bachelor's college. If I knew that she would take the extreme step, I would have taken a loan to fulfill her desire of further education," said Man Singh, father of the deceased.
