PWD officials said due to the encroachments water from the Lower Bhavani project and rain water was flowing into the Perumpallam odai (stream) in this town.
They said the houses had come up at the starting point of the stream in the village,
Some years back an individual had moved Madras High Court to remove the encroachments, following which the court had directed PWD to evict all encroachments in water bodies, including the odai.
On their recommendation the Revenue Department granted house pattas to more than 200 persons who had encroached Kadirampatty odai.
Some had already shifted their premises.
The eviction which went on till this evening was done jointly with Revenue and Police department personnel, the sources said, adding no untoward incident took place.
