allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from a trader, police said today.
Inspector Narinder Singh and ASI Gurmel Singh of Nihal Singh Wala police station have been charged with taking bribe of Rs 5 lakh from a trader, they said.
Complainant Parmpal Singh alleged that the accused policemen had conducted a raid on September 30 at his shop and seized fire crackers to be sold on Diwali next month.
Parampal, his nephew Sukhwinder and another person, Hari Om, were taken to the residential quarter of the Inspector by the cops who threatened to book them for illegally selling crackers.
A case was today registered against the duo after Parampal made a complaint to Moga SSP Charnjit Singh, who had handed over the probe to SP (Detective), Moga, Harjit Singh Pannu.
Pannu conducted the probe and found the police officials had illegally detained the shop keeper and others.
Both the accused policemen are absconding and efforts were on to nab them, police said.
