Police resorted to lathicharge to scare away a mob which blocked the arterial road after the incident and did not allow the cops to take away the mangled bodies from the spot.
According to eyewitnesses the duo - later identified as Yusuf Ali and his wife - were going towards Kaliachak on the bike when it skidded off the road after coming in touch with the truck and they were run over by the heavy vehicle almost immediately.
The truck was impounded but the driver remained absconding.
