Besides, Additional Sessions Judge Praveen Kumar also imposed a fine of Rs 3,000 on each of the two convicts - Neeraj and his associate Manjit, both residents of Karnal and carrying a reward of Rs five lakh on their heads.
According to the prosecution, on a tip off on February 3, the police party had zeroed in on the SUV, carrying the two wanted gangsters, at a place close to the nearby village Dalia Ki. The gangsters responded by opening fire at the police, in which the police personnel had a narrow escape while their vehicle was damaged.
Superintendent of Police Balwan Singh Rana said here today that while the police furnished evidence against the duo in the local court, both the gangsters were involved in several cases of heinous crimes like murder and looting.
