Two suspected drug peddlers were arrested with over four kg heroin worth around Rs 16 crore from near Sector-18 Rohini Metro Station, the police said today.
The police had yesterday learnt that two members of a drug cartel would come to supply a huge consignment to one of their Delhi-based contacts, Nasir, they said.
A trap was laid near Sector-18 Rohini Metro Station, and the accused -- Binod Rajbongshi (40), a resident of Golaghat, Assam, and Riyazuddin (39), a resident of Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, -- were nabbed, a police official said, adding on searching them 4.07 kg of heroin was recovered from them.
Riyazuddin, who works as contractor for Utar Pradesh Jal Nigam, took to supplying heroin to earn more money.
During interrogation, the accused duo revealed that the heroin was delivered to them by one Maina, a resident of Assam and they were involved in supply of heroin for the last four to five years, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said.
A Special Cell team has been sent to Golaghat, Assam, to identify and apprehend the kingpin of this drug syndicate, he said.
The accused revealed that they procured huge consignment of crude heroin from hilly areas of Manipur and Assam and then processed the same into fine quality of heroin at their hideouts. It is suspected that Maina collected heroin from around the international border of Manipur and Myanmar, the police said.
