About 200 sea turtle hatchlings emerged from their eggs and dashed towards the sea near Dhanushkodi coast in the island today.
According to forest officials, the turtles emerged as a group last night and rushed towards the sea.
Officials said over 2000 eggs had been buried in the egg chamber constructed by the sea turtles, and they expected more turtles to emerge in the coming days.
Forest officials, as part of sea turtle conservation progamme, had ensured that the eggs were not disturbed by fencing the area.
