Three persons were arrested while allegedly carrying out illegal mining in Kambhakshpur village here, police said today.
Ten dumpers and one soil digging machine were recovered in the raid that was carried out last night, Assistant Superintendent of Police Abhishek Singh said.
Six other accomplices, however, managed to escape.
Acting on a tip-off, Singh along with a team of policemen reached the spot and disrupted the illegal activity.
A cross-fire between the police team and the mafia took place after the latter opened fire but no one was injured.
Later, DSP and SP Rural too reached the raid site.
