Safarzul Islam, Wasim Alam and Sanjay Basu were arrested on charge of duping Bikash Jha and Gautam Jha of Rs 21 lakh posing as Income Tax officers, a senior officer of Kolkata Police said.
The incident happened on August 28 when the two businessmen was going to deposit the said amount at a nationalised bank's branch in north Kolkata, he said.
"It was when the trio approached them posing as I-T officers, they took them in front of the I-T office at Esplanade area saying that senior officers have summoned the businessmen," he said.
The businessmen later lodged a complaint at Shampukur Police Station based on which the three were arrested this Saturday.
While Wasim and Safarzul we're picked up from their residents in Tiljala area, Sanjay was arrested from his home in Kareya Police Station limits, the IPS officer said.
