Three people were killed and as many injured when a car, which was on its way to Varanasi from Kanpur, rammed into a pick up van at the Wahida turn on the NH-2 in the wee hours, police said.
Mahesh Vishkarma (50) and his driver Virendra Pratap Singh (32) along with the pick up van driver (30) were killed in the accident, while Vishkarma's wife and his two children were injured, police said.
In another accident, a speeding bus carrying pilgrims from Ajmer lost balance and overturned after dashing into the divider in Babusarai area, police said.
Some other passengers sustained minor injuries and were given first aid.
The bus driver fled the scene after the accident, police added.
