A week after the rape of an 71-year-old nun, a three-year-old girl was allegedly raped in West Bengal's Nadia district, police said today.
An 18-year-old youth lured the baby, his neighbour, with chocolate in Ghurulia village under Kaliganj police station in the district, took her to a place and allegedly raped her yesterday afternoon, they said.
The child informed her mother what had happened and she lodged a police complaint last night. The baby was taken to a hospital in Krishnagar for medical test.
The accused was arrested from the house of his maternal uncle at that locality early today, police said.
The gangrape of a 71-year-old nun inside a convent school at Ranaghat in the same district on March 14 has shocked the entire nation.
The monthly average rape record is 17 in Nadia district for the past two years, said Samima Safique, member of National Commission for Women, after visiting the convent yesterday.
