320 cartons of illegal liquor seized from UP-Haryana border

A man was arrested and 320 cartons of illegal liquor, allegedly being smuggled into Uttar Pradesh for supply in the upcoming local body elections, was seized from a check post here, the police said today.
The police made the seizure from a truck coming from Haryana during a checking drive at the Yamuna Bridge yesterday, Circle Officer Rajesh Kumar Tiwari said.
"The accused, a resident of Haryana, was arrested, while one of his accomplices managed to escape from the spot," the officer said, adding that a case has been registered in the matter.
It is suspected that the liquor was being smuggled for distribution during the civic polls, starting November 22 in Uttar Pradesh, he said.
