A 37-year-old man was stabbed to death by unknown assailants during a drunken brawl in north west Delhi's Ashok Vihar area, police said today.
Deceased Bhushan, a beldar with Delhi Jal Board (DJB), was stabbed to death near Ashok Garden last night.
He was admitted to Sushrut Trauma Centre in Ashok Vihar where he succumbed to two stab wounds received by him on his thighs at 4.30 am today, police said.
Bhushan lived in Alipur locality of outer Delhi along with his wife and two children.
Last night, Bhushan and his two colleagues identified as Bhagwan Das and Gajendra Pal were on duty at DJB office in Ashok Vihar. At around 10 they received a complaint call regarding a fault in waterline in the area and went to attend it it a van. The trio were under the influence of alcohol, a police officer said.
While returning back some dispute arose among them and Das refused to accompany Bhushan and Pal in the van. As Das walked back leaving behind the duo, they followed him and near Ashok Garden tried to push him into the van.
Das resisted them and tried to free himself by crying for help. Meanwhile, four persons on two bikes who were passing by stopped and intervened in the matter.
Bhushan allegedly abused them and asked them to go away. Enraged by this, the four men attacked him and a scuffle began in which Bhushan was stabbed in his thighs, he said.
His body was handed over to his family after post mortem. The family members accompanied by relatives and neighbours carried the body and placed it on a road in Jhandewala, protesting and accusing police of delay in reaching the spot and admitting him to hospital.
"He was admitted to a nearby hospital after which police was informed. A case of murder has been registered at Bharat Nagar police sation and hunt has been launched to nab the accused," added the officer.
