"As per information received, four passengers of a vehicle travelling through Ratacherra have died in the landslip," in- charge at the Khliehriat Police station, B Lyngkhoi told PTI.
He said that six persons in the vehicle halted on the side of road and were sipping tea at a tea stall located behind a hill when the landslip took place at around 4.30 pm at Rattacherra village.
The deceased have been identified as Everyone Najiar (61), D Pohshna (45), P Pohshna (23) and D Amse (45).
At least four houses in the area were also washed away in the incident when the landmass caved due to incessant rain in the past 48 hours, he said.
After the incident, several hundred vehicles are stranded along the NH 44 as portion of the road was cut off.
