Four persons died in separate clashes between two communities over past enmity in Devbhoomi-Dwarka district, police said today.
The incident took place at Hathla village in Bhanwad taluka late last night when three men belonging to Mer community were allegedly killed by rivals from Rajput community after they allegedly murdered one Majbutsinh Jethva near his shop in the village, they said.
As per the FIR filed lodged by Jethva's son Giriraj, five men belonging to Mer community killed his father using sharp weapons, said SP Jagdish Patel.
He said Natha Mer, his son Raju Mer, Arbham Mer and two other unidentified men were named as accused in the FIR, he said.
"We learned that Jethva's relative Deepu Jethva, who was sarpanch of Hathla in late 80s, had allegedly killed one Samant Mer around 35 years back. Out of that enmity, five of Deepu's relatives murdered Jethva yesterday night using sharp weapons," said Patel.
Upon learning about the murder, some relatives as well as supporters of Jethva rushed to the spot and killed the trio.
"In another FIR, filed by one Samat Odedara, unknown supporters of Jethva caught Natha, Raju and Arbham after a brief chase and then killed them using sticks and knives. The trio got caught after two others, who came with them, fled from the spot in the car and left the trio behind," the SP said.
Police have deployed extra force in the village in view of the forthcoming local body polls.
"We have already identified some men who might be behind the murders. They will be caught within few days," the SP added.
