Around 400 kg of hemp, cultivated near the Indo-Bangladesh border in South West Garo Hills district, was destroyed on Saturday, police said.

The cultivated hemp was to be smuggled to Bangladesh.

Following a tip off, the civil administration, the BSF and the police visited Kuligaon village, located 5 km from the international border, and identified 14 patches of cultivated land of hemp on Friday evening.

Approximately 400 hemp plants in three of the 14 patches were destroyed and the remaining hemp, around 1000 kg, in the other patches would be destroyed soon, police said.

No arrests were made as yet and investigation was on, police said.
