44 persons injured in jallikattu

Forty-four persons weretoday injured in 'jallikattu' (bull taming sport) held at Avarangadu near here, organised in connection with the Pongal festival.
Police said three of them were seriously injured and admitted to government hospital here.
The others were discharged after being treated as out-patient, they said.
Out of 300 bulls which were registered for taking part inthe event, nine were rejected on medical grounds.
Tight security arrangements had been made for the event,they added.
