While head constable Karamvir Singh was on foot patrolling duty at Shivaji Bridge railway station on March 12 at around 7 PM, he saw six or seven persons who were shouting and abusing in public, said DCP (Railways) Parwaiz Ahmed.
When Singh asked them not to create a nuisance, they allegedly started abusing him, hit him on his head with a bottle, and rained blows on him.
They fled from there after taking his wireless set. A case was registered and teams were formed to identify the accused.
"The CCTV footage of the areas of Barakhamba Road and Connaught Place were also seen. After zeroing in on the suspects, a drive was started to search for them," he said.
One person Arjun Singh was arrested on March 15 on the basis of a tip-off.
"He runs a tattoo-making counter in Palika Bazar with his partner Arun Choudhary. On March 12, he was celebrating Holi with his friends Choudhary, Mohit, Ajay and three friends of Ajay in Palika Bazar," said the officer.
Mohit and Ajay work as retail salesmen in Palika Bazar.
They consumed more alcohol at the railway station and started abusing and shouting. They allegedly attacked the cop when he warned them.
The other accused, Ajay Kumar, Deepanshu alias Chotu, Sachin and Yogesh Kumar, were also arrested.
"Deepanshu and Sachin are cousins and work as photographers while Yogesh works as an architect in Ghaziabad tehsil.
"Raids are being conducted to nab Arun Choudhary and Mohit, who are absconding," said the officer, adding that the wireless set has also been recovered.
