With the arrest of five persons, Delhi police today claimed to have busted a gang which would employ domestic helps through a fake placement agency to carry out robberies in houses in several states.
According to the police, Ram Gulam (35), Pinki Pal (20), Ashok Kumar (33), Manoj (27), and Usha Sharma alias Asha Sharma (21) have been arrested in the case. A good amount of looted jewellery and cash have been recovered from them.
The gang came under police scanner after a complaint was file by Sujata Goel, a resident of Maya Enclave who became a victim of the gang, police said.
"Goel had hired a domestic help named Asha, through 'Gupta Security and Maid Bureau' on July 31 after paying a commission money of Rs 26,000. The maid used to stay in the house overnight. On August 1, Sujata left for her job in morning.
"When she returned in the evening, she found that the house was bolted from outside. She became suspicious and on checking, she found that the maid was missing along with all the valuables of the house," said Additional Commissioner of Police (West) V Renganathan.
Acting on the complaint, the culprits were soon trapped and apprehended by the police.
"After sustained interrogation, the gang members disclosed that they had duped many house owners in a similar way across several states like Delhi, Haryana, UP, Noida, Ghaziabad, Punjab etc," said Renganathan.
