The mob went berserk as locals, including women, took out an anti-liquor campaign at Namatara village as part of women's day observance, Kendrapara SP Satish Kumar Gajaviye said.
As the procession approached an IMFL shop in the heart of the village, the mob vandalised the liquor shop.
Policemen were attacked as they were trying to pacify the stone pelting mob which then brickbatted the cops and torched a police jeep, the SP said.
The injured policemen are out of danger.
"Police reinforcements from the district headquarters reached the spot. The situation is tense but under control," he said.
Local MLA Debendra Sharma, however, accused the police for the violence, blaming them for using force on peaceful picketers which resulted in the flare-up.
