The plane crashed into trees yesterday in Fredericksburg near the end of the airport's runway when it was attempting to land before pulling back up again, NBC Washington reported.
"It attempted to abort the landing and take off again," Sgt. F L Tyler of the Virginia State Police said.
"It then went off the south end of the runway and then landed in the tree line," said Tyler.
When the plane crashed into the trees, it immediately caught fire, officials said.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
