6 lakh people fined for traffic violations in J-K till Nov '16

More than six lakh people have been challaned for traffic violations in the state, till November 2016, and over Rs 11 crore has been recovered as fine from them, Jammu and Kashmir government said today.
"During the year 2016 upto November end, a total of 6,10,947 violators have been challaned (fined) and an amount of Rs 11,20,60,649 have been recovered from them," Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said in a written reply in State Legislative Assembly here today.
Replying to a question of PDP MLA Anjum Fazili, she said, to enforce the traffic laws and in order to check traffic violations, strict vigil and regulations was being done by J-K Traffic Police.
Last year traffic police had seized the driving license of 805 drivers, and also recommended for their suspension to the concern RTOs, she said, adding highway patrol vehicles have been deployed for checking visible offences.
Traffic Interceptors have been allotted to subordinate traffic wings for deployment on national highway and other vulnerable roads to check traffic violations in general and visible offences in particular, she said, adding that towing vehicles have been hired in Jammu and Srinagar and other towns to take away the wrongly parked vehicles.
