6-yr-old complain about flies, NGT issues notice to UP govt

Taking cognisance of a complaint by a six-year-old boy about swarms of flies from a poultry farm troubling him and his friends at school in Shamli district, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh government.
A bench of Justice Swatantre Kumar yesterday asked all the respondents, including the chief secretary, the state pollution control board and the poultry farm's owner, in the case to file a reply by August 31.
The boy, Arjun Malick, petitioned the tribunal that within 500 metres of the farm there is a government and private school.
"There is foul smell around us and it is making it difficult for us to study," the boy said in his application.

Malik's counsel Gaurav Bansal said the NGT has asked respondents, including the chief secretary, state pollution control board, animal husbandry department, Shamli district magistrate and the poultry farm, to file a reply by August 31.
"The pollution control board has issued a notice to the poultry farm after it was found that it did not have adequate infrastructure dispose of waster and garbage," Bansal said.
Local residents had lodged a complaint with the district administration but no action was taken, the lawyer claimed, adding "school authorities also did not take any steps to deal with situation".
"The lack of waste and garbage disposal posed health hazards," he said.
