The police claimed that DSP Amit Nagar, excise inspector Ajay Yadav and three constables were injured in the last night's attack.
"We have arrested two persons-- Devender and Rajender so far. An FIR against 50 to 60 unidentified people has been registered," said Sudhir Kumar Singh, Additional Superintendent of Police Hapur.
The incident took place last night when DSP Amit Nagar received information that illicit liquor was being sold at a grocery shop owned by one Rajender Singh Pradhan in Atroli village.
"When the DSP, along with his team raided the shop, liquor smugglers allegedly attacked them. Nagar was hit on his head with wooden rod and bricks. The accused also attacked others in the team and later opened fire to make way for their escape," said a senior police officer.
Police sources said that when the team raided the shop, there were around 50 to 70 persons who attacked the police party.
Meanwhile, locals today alleged that soon after the incident, police personnel got angry and started beating some villagers and even smashed fridges, televisions in houses.
